Attendees listen to information about desertification control achievements in the Yinkentala comprehensive control project area.

Yinkentala means "harmonious grassland" in Mongolian, yet it lies in the eastern part of the Kubuqi, the seventh largest desert in China. The desert is about 20 kilometers wide from north to south, dividing almost half of the western territory of Dalad Banner into two.

Yinkentala has implemented a comprehensive control project on natural oases protection since 2000. It has built a shelterbelt 2 to 3 kilometers' wide by planting poplars on the windward slopes and inter-dune lowlands outside the project area.

Yinkentala has to date built 700 hectares of sand barriers, brought a total of 1800 hectares of sand under control and encouraged its neighboring regions to afforest 6,700 hectares of sand. Yinkentala has been enlisted as a National 4A Level Scenic Spot and welcomes more than 3,000 tourists per day in the peak tourism season.
