Oasis in the desert
After long-term efforts in ecological construction, Ejin Horo Banner has formed its own outlook – greening brings ecological harmony, competitive strength and economic development. The desert environment will be completely changed and the economic and ecological benefits are expected to be improved with that new perspective.
The Banner's forest coverage has grown to 36.35 percent from no more than 3 percent in the initial post-Liberation period in China. Its vegetation coverage has reached 88 percent.
The organizers of COP 13 have provided two different field trips for delegates to better understand how Ordos has been combating desertification. One has been described above, and the other is to Dalad Banner, in the middle of the Kubuqi Desert, where delegates will be able to conduct comprehensive studies of the Kubuqi Desert.
In addition, a specially-planned route featuring Ordos' industrial transformation and upgrading is available. Inspections of a cashmere industry park, an ecological tourism demonstration area, and cultural exhibitions will provide delegates with different impressions of their host city.
