Thanks to the Ordos Electric Power Bureau, the opening ceremony of the COP 13 to the UNCCD was held at the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center on Wednesday with high-quality electric support.

The bureau's Deputy General Manager Niu Jirong was present before the ceremony to lead its work.

Niu urged his colleges at the site to make sure all electrical functions and all equipment were carefully checked and perfected.

Before the ceremony, staff inspected high voltage equipment in the conference center’s transformer room once an hour. 

They also gave all facilities a thorough examination in the wee hours of the morning.

Sixty-four teams were assigned to patrol and inspect the 33 110-kV-above power lines that bring electricity to the conference.

Finally, as a highlight, intelligent robots were employed as patrol assistants. A robot named Xiaozhi worked for 24 hours at the 220-kV Kangbashi Substation, detecting and recording facility data.

During the ceremony, Niu and other personnel in charge were in the command room where a 14.5-meter-long screen showed venue situations in real-time.

The information included the operation of the power grid and important facilities and the location of the bureau's staff and vehicles.

With the screen, the command team is able to monitor the COP 13 event as a whole, cope with emergencies, and analyze situations.

To fully guarantee services to the COP 13, the bureau has deployed 913 staff members and 138 vehicles and set up 126 offices and 34 emergency teams.

The 13th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was launched on Sept 6 and will last until Sept 17, in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
