At the invitation of the National Assembly of Nigeria, Zhang Qingwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, led a delegation to visit Nigeria from Nov 25 to 27, during which he met with the country's Vice-President Kashim Shettima and held talks separately with Senate President of the National Assembly Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Abbas Tajuddeen.
Zhang noted that the heads of state of China and Nigeria jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September this year, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.
China is ready to work with Nigeria to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, maintain the momentum of bilateral relations, and jointly build a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future, he noted.
The NPC of China hopes to strengthen friendly exchanges with the Nigerian National Assembly and make greater contributions to the development of a China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership, he added.
The Nigerian side spoke highly of the establishment of the Nigeria-China comprehensive strategic partnership, stressing that it will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, support China in playing a bigger role in the international arena, and is willing to further enhance friendly exchanges between the legislative bodies and deepen bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, security and personnel training to better benefit the two peoples.
