Senior Chinese legislator calls for boosting consumption vitality

On April 13, Peng Qinghua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the launch ceremony of the Global Consumption Event Series in Haikou, the capital city of South China's Hainan province. The event marked the official opening of the 4th China International Consumer Products Expo themed "Share open opportunities, co-create a better life".

Addressing the launch ceremony, Peng said that over the past three years, the scale, quality and influence of the expo have continued to rise, making it the largest consumer products exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region, a global hub for consumer products, and a barometer for consumer market trends, as well as representing the progress made in the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Highlighting Hainan as the largest special economic zone in China with unique advantages in comprehensively deepening reforms and implementing experimental policies for the highest-level opening-up, Peng underlined the necessity to promote consumer innovation to stimulate consumption vitality.

He emphasized the importance of technological innovation in the development of new quality productive forces in a bid to promote global economic recovery.

Efforts should be made to bolster green development to build a green consumer ecosystem and create a better future, Peng said.

He also called for adhering to openness and inclusiveness to expand global trade to enable win-win cooperation to benefit the whole world.
