A survey team led by Cao Jianming, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, visited South China's Guangdong province from Aug 17 to 20 to learn about the handling of foreign-related cases at courts and the  juvenile-related procuratorial work at procuratorates.

At a symposium on Aug 18 held in Guangzhou, the team heard reports from the province's courts and procuratorates and exchanged ideas with national and provincial lawmakers, lawyers and scholars. They also conducted field studies in Guangzhou and Shenzhen to hear more opinions and suggestions.

Cao recognized the province's achievements in professional team building, the innovation of its work mechanism, and the improvement of the quality and efficiency in handling foreign-related cases.

He called for efforts to enhance research on new situation and new problems in foreign-related trials, adhere to the Party's leadership to guarantee the correct political direction, and focus on the country's high-quality development.

Cao also noted that Guangdong has made remarkable progress in juvenile-related procuratorial work, with invaluable experience being accumulated and good practices formed in the course.

It's important to further study and enforce the Law on the Protection of Minors, the Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency and other laws and regulations, and integrate them with efforts from families, schools, society, cyberspace, government and the judiciary, according to Cao.

Procuratorial organs should actively and fully perform their duties in accordance with the law, and efforts to build specialized schools for juvenile delinquents should be strengthened, he added.
