The Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress invited deputies to the provincial and national people's congresses to inspect a demonstration area of "garden city" program in Chengdu, the provincial capital, on May 12.

The lawmakers visited Longquan Mountain Urban Forest Park, the centerpiece of the program under the new development philosophy.

The park reshaped the mountainous scenery and ecological landscape, increasing regional forest coverage rate from 35 percent to 85.7 percent. It also hosted exhibitions, immersive research, educational events and outdoor sports, which have attracted nearly 3.5 million visitors in the past two years.

During the inspection, lawmakers called for coordinated efforts in advancing the "garden city" initiative on many fronts, including cultural endeavors, governance capacity building, and alignment with the blueprint for Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

The group also visited the Culture and Sports Center in Jianyang, a county-level city under the administration of Chengdu, to learn about the venue's construction, maintenance and operation. Efforts are needed to promote the equal access to basic public services and meet the residents' diverse needs to improve the quality of their  lives, they suggested.

Lawmakers also paid a visit to You'an village in Jianyang, where remarkable progress has been made in developing rural collective economy amid the implementation of the provincial organic regulations on rural collective economy.

Learning about business diversification, dividends villagers get from their shares and contract farming practices at the village, the group made suggestions on economic organizations, management of rural collective assets and operational risk prevention during the visit.
