Vice-chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Cao Jianming, Zhang Chunxian, Shen Yueyue, Ji Bingxuan, Arken Imirbaki, Chen Zhu, Wang Dongming, Padma Choling, Hao Mingjin and Wu Weihua participated in a voluntary tree-planting event in Beijing on April 7.

They were joined by the NPC Standing Committee's secretary-general and those from the Leading Party Members' Group of the NPC Standing Committee, as well as the NPC's special committees at the event held at the tree-planting area of Qinglong Lake in Fengtai district.

In 1981, the Fourth Session of the Fifth NPC deliberated and adopted a resolution on launching a nationwide voluntary tree-planting campaign.

Over the years, the NPC Standing Committee has organized annual tree-planting activities in Shunyi, Changping and Fengtai districts in Beijing.

Since the beginning of the current term, the 13th NPC and its Standing Committee have coordinated and promoted legislation and supervision to advance ecological and environmental protection. Efforts have been made to inspect the enforcement of four laws on pollution prevention and control, such as Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Law, for four consecutive years.

The NPC Standing Committee will carry out an inspection on the enforcement of the Environmental Protection Law this year and conduct a special inquiry based on the results of the inspection.
