Ningxia begins building pumped storage project

Ningxia Hui autonomous region started construction of a pumped storage project on March 18 in in the Niushou Mountain, Qingtongxia city.

Pumped storage hydropower is a green and clean energy source that is advocated by the country, and the pumped storage project at Niushou Mountain is one of the top ten engineering projects in Ningxia, with a total investment of 7.85 billion yuan ($1.23 billion), an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts, and an area of 6,924 mu (461.6 hectares).

Up to now, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Development and Reform Commission has approved 20 reports on the project.

Upon completion, the project, with an annual average generation of 1.51 billion kilowatt-hours of wind and photovoltaic power, can save 530,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.594 million tons.

In addition, the project will improve the enviroment in Niushou Mountain, further expand  investments in fixed assets, and increase local tax revenue by 120 million yuan per year.
