Transit visas are not required for crew members and passengers (citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom not included) who are in immediate transit through China and who stay for not more than 24 hours within the airport of the in-transit city.

Tourist (L Visa)

(L) Visa is issued to an alien who comes to China for sightseeing, visiting relatives or other private purposes.

Student (X Visa)

(X) Visa is issued to an alien who comes to China for study for a period of more than six months (long-term student). An alien who comes to China for study for a period of no more than six months (short-term student) shall apply for a (F) Visa.

Procedures for Travel Permit Application

foreigner wishing to travel to cities or counties closed to foreigners shall apply in advance for a travel permit to the public security bureau of the city or county where he/she stays and may proceed there only with permission.

Lost Report and Re-application Procedures for Exit and Entry Certificates

In case of a lost passport, foreigners shall promptly report to the local exit-and-entry department of the public security bureau.
