With more than 49,500 students in Ningbo, Zhejiang province gearing up for the annual national college entrance examination, high schools in the city have organized a series of unique and meaningful activities to encourage them, according to the Ningbo Daily.
"We wish you a rich and meaningful life," said Wu Guoping, principal of Zhenhai High School, during the graduation ceremony on June 5, "Today's ceremony coincides with the start of the traditional Chinese solar term 'Grain in Ear', when temperatures rise, rain picks up, and nature flourishes. The most important growth period of the year is about to begin, and you, too, are about to begin the most beautiful period of your lives.”
In Chinese tradition, it is customary to eat pastries and zongzi before exams, as they sound similar to "gao zhong" (passing the exam). Yuyao High School offered students a "blessing on the tip of the tongue" - pastries and zongzi.
During a running exercise, Zhao Hongqing, Party secretary of the school, led the senior students, who held a banner reading "Victory in the College Entrance Exam". Students from grades one and two stood along the tracksides, cheering them on.
The three students lined up to approach the teachers, who were dressed in carefully prepared red clothes. They greeted and wished the best of luck to the students running towards them, one by one.
The Ningbo Huizhen Academy organized a special ceremony for its seniors. On the playground, students from the two grades below them offered their full blessings to the seniors. The cheers sounded like an inspiring symphony.
