Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said on Oct 27 that she hopes to explore further cooperation between Ningbo and Hong Kong.

Lam made the remarks in a video at the opening ceremony for the third Global Ningbo Community and Development Partnership Conference, which recently opened in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province.

Ningbo and Hong Kong are already cooperating closely in multiple fields, she said, and the establishment of the Ningbo area of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone by the State Council last month will not only inject new momentum into Ningbo's development, but also generate new cooperation opportunities for Ningbo and Hong Kong.

Lam was born in Hong Kong in 1957 to a family originally from Ningbo. Lam's mother comes from Ningbo's Fenghua district, while her father is from Zhoushan, a city near Ningbo.

Hong Kong is Ningbo's largest source of foreign investment and the primary destination for overseas investment by Ningbo enterprises. More than 100,000 Hong Kong residents are of Ningbo origin.
