Shen Yueqin, born in Shilin village, Yuyao city, Ningbo in the 1980s, plans to brew 50,000 kilograms of persimmon liquor this year, 10 times more than her company's output five year ago.
In 2016, Shen started her persimmon liquor business in Shilin by renting a vacant tea factory and turning it into a distillery.
This year, the young entrepreneur has purchased 500,000 kilograms of persimmon from local farmers at a price of 6 yuan ($0.86) per kilogram, generating 20,000 to 30,000 yuan in income for farmers.
In 2017, the fruit liquor brewed by Shen's company using traditional techniques took home a gold medal at the World Expo in Astana, Kazakhstan.
This is the first time a fruit-based liquor produced in China has won such an honor at the World Expo. In January of this year, the invention patent application for their fruit liquor brewing technology was approved by the China National Intellectual Property Administration.
Shilin is a traditional village with a history of more than 600 years, and the water used to brew persimmon liquor comes from the village's 600-year-old well.
