Cross-Straits youth development forum opens in Hangzhou

The third session of the Cross-Straits Youth Development Forum was held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 13.

Among the keynote speakers at the forum were Yuan Jiajun, Party secretary of Zhejiang province, Liu Jieyi, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and Hung Hsiu-chu, former chairwoman of the Taiwan-based Kuomintang (KMT) party.

Attendees consisted of some 260 distinguished guests from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, including many young people.

In his speech, Yuan stressed that Zhejiang is one of Taiwan's closest business partners among provinces on the Chinese mainland, and Taiwan residents, especially the younger generation, are always welcome to participate in Zhejiang's socioeconomic development.

Yuan also announced eight favorable policies targeting Taiwan compatriots who are making scientific innovations, starting up businesses, running homestay hotels, conducting e-commerce activities, and more in the province.

Liu called on Taiwan compatriots to push forward the process of national rejuvenation and reunification.

Hung regards the cross-Straits integrated development as an unstoppable historic trend. In her speech, she expressed her hopes that the younger generation of Chinese seize the huge opportunity offered by China's thriving economy and contribute to the development of cross-Straits relations.
