Ningbo's Zhenhai district recently made the list of national demonstration counties (districts) for ecological civilization construction.

Zhenhai has become the third place in the city, following Xiangshan county and Beilun district, to win such an honor.

In recent years, the district, an industrially highly developed area, has been actively exploring how to improve its natural environment and has achieved notable results.

Currently, an environmental monitoring system for air, water and soil is being used in the district, and the district has a higher density of monitoring stations than any other district or county-level city in the nation.

The district's forest coverage rate now stands at 23.1 percent, while the figure for its built-up areas is 42 percent. In 2019, its air quality reached its highest level since the issuance of the new air quality standards. Last year, Zhenhai also won Zhejiang's highest award for water management.
