The Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education approved the establishment of Georgia School, the first school in Ningbo exclusively for children of foreign nationals, on Nov 22, local media reported.
According to the department's regulations, the school will only admit children of foreign nationals; Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents; and Chinese citizens who have moved abroad.
The school plans to enroll 100 students per year, satisfying the educational needs of foreigners in the city.
Georgia School, located on Jiangbei Avenue, covers an area of 80 mu (5.3 hectares) and a floor space of 30,000 square meters.
The school is licensed and fully accredited, offering an American-style research-based, college preparatory curriculum for children from Pre-K through high school.
The teaching staff consists of 42 foreign teachers, mainly from the United States, and seven Chinese teachers.
All teachers hold teaching certificates from English speaking countries, and 70 percent have a master's degree or above.
The school's establishment is a big step toward the internationalization of basic education in Ningbo and will alleviate the dearth of educational options for foreigners in the city.
