The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port will undergo renovations and begin construction of a new container terminal in its two port areas in Ningbo, with the preliminary design of the two projects approved recently by the provincial development and reform commission.
A general berth in the Beilun Port Area will be transformed into a container specialized berth with a capacity of 100,000 metric tons.
The dock line will stretch 383 meters after renovations, increasing the capacity of the dock to be able to handle 636,000 standard containers per year.
The container yard will also be expanded to cover around 198,300 square meters with the capacity of 817,000 standard containers. The existing rail line will be extended to handle 432,000 containers.
The project, after completion, will hopefully promote the intensive development of the Beilun Port Area and advance the construction of its ocean-railway transport of containers.
Another project in the Chuanshan Port Area will see the construction of a 70,000-ton-capacity container terminal, whose dock line will stretch 330 meters and handle 620,000 standard containers.
The project aims to relieve the overload pressure of the port and further strength its core competitiveness.
Relevant authorities will next strive to get the construction design for the two projects approved so that construction can start as soon as possible.
