A group of 89 students from Hong Kong visited Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province on July 25-28, where they got a taste of the pioneering spirit reflected in the city's development.
Their first stop was the Ningbobang Museum where they were presented with the stories and hard-working spirit of "Ningbobang", a term referring to Ningbo entrepreneurs who led the country in starting businesses in different sectors.
The exhibits displayed at the museum showed many "firsts" created by Ningbo entrepreneurs, such as the first bank and the first stock exchange founded by Chinese people in China. The group of young people from Hong Kong gained a better understanding of their spirit of "always to be the first" and "forging ahead" after being given a guided tour of the museum.
Wong Kam-hung, a student from Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College, said what these entrepreneurs did deserves their full admiration. Wong's family was originally from Ningbo and he said from the exhibits he also better understood his grandfather's decision to leave home and pursue his dreams.
Chan Yu-ting, whose family origin was also Ningbo, said she has some friends from the city and she has a good sense of the spirit of "Ningbobang" from their actions.
After the visit to Ningbobang Museum, the youth group also went to Fenghua district and Yuyao city. What impressed Wong most in the four-day tour was the booming environment for startups in the province. "I know there are a lot of supporting policies for startups in Zhejiang and I hope one day I will have the chance to have my own business in the province," said Wong.
