Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port in terms of cargo throughput, was off to a good start in the first half of 2018.

A semiannual report, released by the port's administration committee on July 10, showed that from January to June, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port processed 550 million metric tons of cargo, up 6.5 percent from the previous year. The port's throughput exceeded 13,284,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), a year-on-year increase of 7.3 percent.

The pleasing data is a result of a series of measures Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has taken to promote the stable growth of cargo and container throughput since the beginning of 2018, including launching six new routes to expand its businesses.

The sea-railway combined transportation was the main focus of the port's work in the first six months of this year. According to the report, the container throughput by means of the combined transportation surpassed 263,000 TEUs during the period, up 44 percent year-on-year, greatly enhancing the link between Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and inland Chinese cities.
