Beihang University to establish a research institute in Ningbo
An innovation research institute, a joint venture between Beihang University and Ningbo, a major manufacturing city in East China's Zhejiang province, will be located in Beilun district of Ningbo, local media reported.
Beihang University, formerly called Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was founded in 1952 under the name of Beijing Institute of Aeronautics. It is the first university in China which focuses on aeronautics and astronautics education and research.
Beihang and Ningbo reached the agreement on the project at the 1st China (Ningbo) Global Experts Summit on March 20, aiming to promote the technological and innovative development of aerospace industry in Ningbo.
The university plans to build six innovative platforms in fields like metal manufacturing, aero-engine, advanced aircraft, intelligent manufacturing, precise instrument and advanced airborne electromechanics.
The research institute is expected to recruit the first group of graduate students within five years. It is estimated that over 2,500 students will be admitted every year.
