After more than one year of construction, the first phase of APP Rudong industrial base – with a total investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.55 billion) – will begin trial production later this month, local media reported.
Located in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – the base currently has five production lines under construction. More than 2,500 workers are reported to be working hard on the site.
The project is being funded by giant paper products manufacturer Asia Pulp and Paper, the subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, one of the largest business conglomerates in Indonesia.
"The first phase of the base will produce 780,000 tons of raw paper for household use a year. After accomplishing that goal, the base will basically be the production hub for raw household paper in China and for the world," said Lin Weizhu, vice-general manager of the APP Rudong industrial base.
"It only took nine working days from signing the contract to obtaining the construction permit. It usually takes more than a month to go through the normal procedures. This was thanks to the efficient service and superior business environment provided by local government," he added.
As one of the most modern industrial projects with the largest investment in the history of Nantong, the APP Rudong industrial base is setting itself the goal of becoming the world's largest, most intelligent and environmentally friendly household paper production base.
After the massive plant goes into operation next year, it is expected that the annual taxable sales will top 10 billion yuan and the annual profit and tax will reach more than 1.8 billion yuan.
