The Yiyuan Garden, located by the Haohe River – in the Chongchuan district of Nantong city in East China – recently reopened after nearly four months of renovation.

In September, a project to improve the landscape and facilities of the garden was launched and the main work was completed at the end of December.

The project mainly included reconstruction of administration premises, renovation of the original Yiting Pavilion, toilets and wisteria frames, as well as construction of a four-cornered pavilion and a wooden corridor. A pier was repurposed as a waterborne platform.

According to members of staff, although the garden has reopened there is still work to do, with chairs and benches to be installed at a later date.

Built in 1991, the garden covers 3,500 square meters and is surrounded by water, framed by lush trees and flowers.

Apart from the Yiyuan Garden, visitors can also take in the quaint Yiting Pavilion and the magnificent Yiqiao Bridge – built to commemorate Gu Yisheng, a patriotic educator – which offer the prospect of a splendid tour in the southeast corner of the Haohe River.
