A large-scale fishery–solar hybrid photovoltaic project in Lyusi Fishing Port, Qidong, is making steady progress, with the installation of solar panels now 93 percent complete.

The project, with a total planned capacity of 400 megawatts, is the largest of its kind along the Jiangsu coast. Areas already connected to the grid have generated 81 million kWh of electricity, providing strong momentum for the region's shift toward cleaner energy.

The project adopts a model in which solar power is generated above the water while aquaculture continues below, maximizing the use of about 390 hectares of tidal flats. When fully operational, the facility will consist of 121 photovoltaic units and is expected to produce around 490 million kWh of electricity each year — equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 490,000 metric tons annually. This approach balances environmental sustainability with economic benefits.

Given the project's coastal location, construction has required careful coordination to ensure maritime safety and accommodate vessel navigation. The Nantong maritime authorities have played a key role in supporting progress by promoting targeted safety measures, strengthening on-site supervision with the help of multiple departments, and using smart monitoring and joint patrols.
