The imports and exports of Nantong in Jiangsu province experienced a 56.3 percent year-on-year increase in August, reaching 48.84 billion yuan ($6.93 billion) and ranking third in the province.
In August alone, the city's exports value soared 72 percent from the previous year to 35.97 billion yuan. The increase can mainly be attributed to the robust performance of traditional export products, including vessels, containers, and integrated circuits.
Specifically, high-end ship exports have propelled the ship export volume to a record-breaking 4.75 billion yuan, while the resurgence of the global maritime market has elevated container exports to 1.09 billion yuan, marking a nearly 23-month peak. Simultaneously, the ongoing recovery of the semiconductor sector has fostered consistent growth in IC exports, totaling 790 million yuan and reflecting a notable year-on-year increase of 30.7 percent.
Additionally, in August, the tally of enterprises in Nantong demonstrating import and export prowess surged to 5,709, with the number increasing every month since March and consistently shattering historical records.
In the first eight months of this year, the foreign trade value of Nantong amounted to 253.89 billion yuan, ranking fourth in the province and witnessing a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent.
