The Hai'an Logistics Base, located in the Hai'an Commercial and Trade Logistics Industry Park, has announced plans to further expand its capacity, diversify transportation services, and improve quality and cost-effectiveness this year.

These initiatives aim to offer optimal transportation solutions to businesses in the surrounding areas in need of logistics services.

The base serves as the primary multimodal transportation platform in Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province. In recent years, trade exchanges through the city have become increasingly frequent due to the high alignment of the production raw materials needed by Hai'an and its surrounding areas in the equipment manufacturing, textile, food, and chemical industries with export products from partners in regions such as Russia and Central Asia involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

"Previously, we often sent out full trains but struggled to fill them on their return trips. Now, by expanding the return journey business, we've achieved a win-win situation for the railway department and export enterprises," said Wang Weiguo, general manager of the base.

This year, the logistics base plans to operate 40 cross-border trains in various directions. Currently, a return train from Kazakhstan in Central Asia has completed customs clearance and departed from the Alashankou station in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on March 24, expected to arrive in Hai'an around March 28.

Additionally, a train carrying fruit from Vientiane, Laos to Hai'an, as well as the first cross-border train originating from Hai'an to Afghanistan, are also in the planning stages and expected to be operational in April or May.
