Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province is dedicated to advancing the development of efficient agriculture through the integration of automated, intelligent, and digitized modern agricultural equipment in sectors such as grain and oil production, horticulture, modern fisheries, and ecological animal husbandry.

This year, over 10,000 pieces of agricultural machinery were deployed for summer harvest and planting in Tongzhou, with unmanned rice transplanters and unmanned crop protection machines being widely adopted.

At the Dalili Grain Planting Family Farm in Xingren town, Tongzhou, large-scale intelligent rice transplanters and unmanned crop protection machines have been implemented, significantly improving work efficiency and reducing labor costs.

Apart from implementation in large-scale grain production, intelligent technologies have also been applied in various fields such as facility vegetable cultivation and aquaculture.

The Yuanhongwanjia smart agriculture base is a smart plant factory created in Tongzhou. The cultivation process in the base is highly automated, with smart greenhouses, artificial light nurseries, cultivation rooms, and control rooms being established.

Staff members at the base can access real-time data such as temperature and humidity within the base through their smartphones and remotely control facilities such as wet curtains, fans, and internal and external shading windows.

To encourage further application of intelligent equipment and technologies in the agricultural industry, Tongzhou has allocated special funds worth over 40 million yuan ($5.78 million) each year since 2019 to subsidize the promotion of smart agricultural machinery and the application of intelligent green technologies. These funds have attracted over 100 million yuan annually in social investment for the development of agricultural mechanization.

To date, Tongzhou has established six unmanned grain production farms, serving as a demonstration area for fully mechanized grain production in the province and a demonstration area for the full mechanization of major crops nationwide.

This year, Tongzhou plans to continue construction on seven unmanned farms, in which about 30 sets of intelligent agricultural machinery and smart agriculture information collection and processing equipment will be used.
