Holiday consumer spending booms in Chongchuan

During the week-long Spring Festival holiday on Jan 21-27, sales in consumer-related sectors in Chongchuan district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, jumped 0.1 percent year-on-year to 388 million yuan ($57.41 million), local media reported.

Official statistics show that sales at the district's shopping malls rose 10.07 percent from the previous year to 237 million yuan, while sales at supermarkets in Chongchuan increased 12.2 percent year-on-year to 51.36 million yuan.

Popular sellers during the festival were gold jewelry, clothing, makeup, gift boxes, snacks, vegetables, and fruit.

Since Jan 9, Chongchuan authorities have launched a series of shopping activities and distributed consumption coupons worth 12 million yuan to boost consumption.
