Rudong sees gains in hygiene and health development over past decade

Rudong, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has significantly advanced its public health management system in the past decade.

The city's expenditure in this regard was 7.01 billion yuan ($977.25 million) during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-21) - 9.4 percent of the total financial expenditure. From 2016 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of Rudong's expenditure on hygiene and health was 13.7 percent.

In 2011, Rudong began to implement the national basic drug system, which aims to improve and ensure the supply of drugs. In 2021, Rudong invested 164 million yuan of financial subsidies into the the implementation of the system. This investment is expected to reach 190 million yuan in 2021.

To date, the medical service provided by family doctors has covered 416,030 residents in the county.

Matang town has in recent years invested more than eight million yuan in the building of a new village clinic and the renovation of old ones.

To date, Rudong has established 173 provincial demonstration of village clinics.
