Polarizers, an important part of display panels, are regarded as the "chips" of the optical industry.

Jiangsu Haiwei Photoelectric Technology Co Ltd – located in the county-level city of Hai'an in Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province – was founded and funded by Amer International Group in 2019, to the tune of some 10 billion yuan ($1.48 billion).

As a Fortune Global 500 company focusing on the new generation of electronic information and new materials, Amer International Group aims to build a leading domestic industrial park specializing in producing polarizers in Hai'an and attract more upstream and downstream manufacturing businesses to settle in the city.

"Taking polarizers used on mobile phones as an example, the equipment investment for a complete production line hits 600-700 million yuan," said Liu Wei, deputy general manager of Haiwei Photoelectric Technology.

The company will build four high-level polarizer production lines, to make products to be applied in mobile phones, computers, and televisions, and in the fields of automotive electronics and medical equipment, Liu added.

The first production line is expected to be installed and debugged early next year. After the whole project is completed, it is expected to manufacture 84 million square meters of polarizers a year and the sales revenue will hit 10 billion yuan, greatly filling China's polarizer capacity gap.

"Hai'an is a city committed to developing the optical film industry; we have confidence in making contributions to the development of the local industrial chain," said Ren Haidong, deputy president of Haiwei Photoelectric technology.
