In response to the nation's call to build a country strong in manufacturing, Rudong county – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – has accelerated the intelligent and digital transformation of the traditional manufacturing sector. A slew of new-model smart manufacturing plants have sprung up in the county.

One of the representatives is Jiangsu Youjia Crop Protection Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Syngenta (China) Group, a Global 500 company. It specializes in technical development and services for plant-protection-related products, as well as manufacturing, processing and sales of pesticides, chemical products and by-products.

The company, established in 2013, has accelerated the construction of a smart plant. It has built an efficient and environmentally-friendly pesticide intelligent manufacturing factory which has adopted many automatic control systems for safety, equipment management, combustible and toxic gas detection, smart warehousing and other aspects, greatly enhancing the automatic production level and stabilizing product quality.

Since the smart plant was completed, the output value of a single workshop has climbed from 570 million yuan ($85.43 million) to 1.25 billion yuan, up 119.3 percent.
