Exhibition about patriotic Han Guojun underway

An exhibition about Han Guojun (1857-1942), a native of Hai'an, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is underway, local media reported on March 29.

The exhibition showcases his life as an official of the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), his friendship with Zhang Jian (1853-1926), an industrial magnate and scholar in Nantong, his participation of the anti-epidemic fight in Northeast China as well as the construction of Shanghai.

Copies of his letters with renowned figures, paper-cutting works of him, and calligraphy works and painting works commemorating him, are also on display.

The exhibition will last until mid-April, during which the sponsors will invite writers, historians, and descendants of Han to attend a colloquia held to mark the 80th anniversary of his death.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Nantong Culture Museum (Nantong Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center), Hai'an culture, broadcasting, television and tourism bureau, and Nantong Democratic League Entrepreneurs Association, and organized by Nantong Eminent Figures Museum and Hai'an Museum.

Born in Hai'an, Han worked as governor of both Anhui and Jiangsu provinces in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and contributed to the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

Han also authored numerous books and edited ancient books in his later years.
