Rice harvest proceeds apace in Tongzhou district

The harvesting season is currently in full swing and in Yujiaba village in Shizong town, under the jurisdiction of Tongzhou district in Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province, the fields are covered by ripe golden rice.

Bao Hua, who works at the Youming Family Farm in the village, said that they have been hard at it now for three days. This year, the average yield is projected to reach 10,500 kilograms per hectare, 750 kg higher than previous years. The locals say it should take 14 more days to finish bringing in the harvest.

Yujiaba village has some 366 ha of farmland, with 306 ha transferred to family farms and new cooperative farms, of which 320 has been given over to rice planting.

"Moving forward, we want to expand the scale of rice planting and build a rice brand," said Fan Yongxiang, general Party branch secretary of Yujiaba.

"In addition, we will continue to strengthen the industrialization of rice planting and develop leisure agriculture, to increase villagers' incomes and boost the thriving development of the village economy."

At present, Tongzhou district has a rice planting area of 26,920 ha, nearly 6,666 ha of which is being harvested now.
