The Qiuyue pear produced in the Jianguo family farm in Hai'an, Nantong was honored as a "China good pear" at a pear industrial convention which was held in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province from Oct 6 to 8.

The convention featured hundreds of types of high-quality pear from around the country.

The accolade was awarded following a professional evaluation of pears based on factors like appearance, taste, crispness and sweetness. Ten types of pears were awarded the title.

Pear production is a signature industry in Hai'an. The county-level city grows 10 high-quality varieties of pears over an area of more than 3.3 hectares.

Local growers have been working to improve the taste of pears by updating fruit varieties and leveraging new technology and equipment.

The orchards boast many advantages, such as good ventilation, low humidity and sufficient daylight.

Hai'an has also established long-term partnerships with technical institutes such as the College of Horticulture of Nanjing Agricultural University and the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences to provide technical support to local farmers.
