The first multi-level car park that uses a 5G-enabled smart system was opened in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province, on Aug 12.
The facility is located on the east side of the Chongchuan district convenience service center, covering 3,323 square meters and providing 236 parking spaces including 24 installed with charging piles.
The system will work like an automated valet, with the gate automatically opening for entering cars and initiating multiple safety tests. After that, motorists need to confirm the vehicle information presented on a nearby machine and the car is then lifted to an empty space and afterwards returned to the driver once the license plate number is inputted into the system. The entire process will be automated, according to project manager You Feng.
The system includes a mobile app that helps reserve vacant parking spaces, navigate to the garage and pay the parking fee.
According to the municipal urban management bureau, it only took 150 days to complete the facility. What's more, the building work had little impact on the environment, with low noise and dust pollution due to the application of the "green construction" concept.
An official from the bureau said that the city's urban area will have 20,000 additional parking spaces this year. Three multi-story parking facilities are planned on Panxiang, Hongxing and Rengang roads.
