The Kang Ping Art Museum opened to the public in the Rudong County Cultural Center in Rudong county – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – on May 22.
Born in Rudong County in Jiangsu province, Kang Ping (1922-2007) was a famous contemporary calligrapher, painter and art educator. He had also been a pioneer in the art museum sector since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 and a leader in the development of the arts in Rudong.
Kang once served as the head of Jiangsu Art Museum and Rudong County Cultural Center. His works have been collected by many domestic art galleries and museums.
Kang's three children donated more than 300 pieces (sets) of Kang's paintings and calligraphy works, manuscripts, letters, and objects he had used in his life, which show Kang's artistic creation process in various periods.
"The aim of the Rudong Party committee and government in building the Kang Ping Art Museum is to promote and inherit Kang's spirit of dedication, and to boost the development of the arts in Rudong," said Chen Huiyu, head of Rudong county.
