At a family farm in Jiangzhuang village in Libao town in Hai'an – a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – 12 workers on April 7 replaced the old plastic greenhouse with a new one featuring an impressive array of intelligent functions.

This will take better care of the grape vines that are beginning to produce fruit – and is another example of the progress that is visibly being made on a daily basis in the region in both poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

Working joyfully and gratefully, the workers are now looking forward to a good harvest. Some of them are from families facing financial hardship, but with the help offered to them by the farm they can support themselves and live better lives.

Zhang Guangxing, one of them, weeds the plot every day very carefully. Due to lung disease, he can't do heavy work, but luckily he secured a less strenuous job at the farm and in addition to the wage there are additional festival subsidies.

The Jiujiule Family Farm has been officially designated as a civilized practice center for poverty alleviation and also serves as a demonstration base for promoting poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

Over the past three years, the farm has helped 38 low-income households, paying them more than 100,000 yuan ($15,270) in total wages. In addition, more than 400 fruit tree seedlings, 1,500 kilograms of broad bean seeds and 6,000 kg of fertilizer were donated to them.

By the end of 2020, all the villages in Libao town had realized a total income of more than 500,000 yuan. The annual) per capita income of farmers in the town exceeded 24,000 yuan and that of households included in the national poverty registration system reached 7,000 yuan.

The town is also employing e-commerce to expand the sales channels for its specialty products, including sesame oil and sesame shrimp paste.
