Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – will add 120 hectares of green space this year, amid continued efforts to establish a National Garden County.

The county's Urban Green Space System Plan was compiled to guide the roll-out of greenery, its protection and restoration, according to Chen Xiaoke, deputy director of the landscape department of the Rudong county housing and urban-rural development bureau.

The greening project called "Three Rivers and Six Banks" is being implemented to add green riverside landscape. Heming Park – another key project – is being established and will increase the wetlands as well as improve the local ecosystem.

It is understood that plant landscape work has already begun on the riverbanks.

In recent years, Rudong has made great endeavors to improve the quality of its urban environment, intensify urban greening efforts and striven to create an urban green space system – with suitable, reasonably distributed, diverse plants and beautiful landscapes.

The county set itself a goal that the green coverage rate of its built-up areas would not be lower than 40 percent in 2022 and per capita public green space would not be less than 14 square meters.
