As the new semester begins, some new schools have opened in Nantong. Two of them, with distinct characteristics, are located in Chongchuan district.

The north campus of Beicheng primary school is a modern public school established by the Chongchuan district Party committee and the government to meet people's increasing needs for education resources in the city's northern urban areas.

In the north campus, each classroom is equipped with non-flicker lights. Without visible flicker, this kind of light has uniform brightness, better protecting students' eyes.

In addition, each classroom is also equipped with an adjustable blackboard light. Under the circumstance that the sunshine is strong during the day, the chalk writing on the blackboard seems very clear when the light is turned on.

According to the school staff, the cost of the lights in a single classroom exceeds 10,000 yuan ($1,462).

The senior high school section of Nantong Tianjiabing Middle School is another newly-opened school. In its canteen all the dishes are self-serve. What's more, the students don't have to carry cash or a meal card. Meals can be paid for by face scanning.

In recent years, food safety and quality in schools has been a concern of citizens and parents. In a bid to ensure the quality of dishes, all purchases of ingredients and seasonings are carried out by the specialized department of Tianjiabing Middle School (senior high school section) through social tendering.

On each workday, the school invites different parent volunteers, together with the staff members, to check the food materials.

It also records the dish recipes and the amount of each student's daily diet, and analyzes the data to prevent food waste or under eating.
