The seventh Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hai'an series of events was held on July 17. More than 300 experts and scholars from domestic universities and research institutions attended the event. Contracts for 10 projects with original achievements, 10 talent-platform cooperation projects and 10 high-tech investment projects were signed on the day.

The thematic events were initiated in Hai'an, a county-level city of Nantong, in 2014. During the past six years, nearly 1,500 industry-university-research cooperation projects have been carried out, more than 260 achievement transformation projects have been introduced and the funding surpassed 1 billion yuan ($143 million).

Hai'an has constantly improved the supportive policies such as the Hailing Talent plan and "40 new policies on talent", guided enterprises to attract and use talents, and encouraged innovative talents to settle in the city.

The Hailing Talent plan is scheduled to allocate 14.6 million yuan to support talents' projects. Wang Xiang, general manager of Nantong Hongfan Data Technology Co Ltd, is a native of Hai'an and one of the 16 talents receiving funding.

Wang brought a technology project concerning a remote sensing satellite. The technology involved in the project is a leading Chinese achievement and is mainly used in urban safety management and early risk warning. Wang said that the project is still in the early incubation stage, but progress will speed up with the extra start-up capital.
