Wu Xuegen, an artist from Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, recently made two paintings to pay tribute to medical staff fighting the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

He painted a portrait of Zhong Nanshan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and prominent expert on respiratory diseases, with mountains in the background.

The painting, called Great Love like Mountains honored Zhong's contributions to controlling the SARS outbreak in 2003 as well as his efforts in the on-going battle against the novel coronavirus.

Wu's other work features medical workers wearing protective clothing.

"We don't know the faces behind the masks, but we know who they are fighting for," said the artist when explaining the work.
