A youth volunteer project to provide care for orphans in Hai'an, Nantong, Jiangsu province was named an "excellent" project for young Chinese volunteers on Jan 4.

The award is recognized as the highest honor for youth volunteer projects. It is granted by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the China Young Volunteers Association.

This is the second time the volunteer project has won a national title, as it also won a gold medal in a national competition for youth volunteer projects. It has also won 19 municipal awards in recent years.

There are a total of 57 known orphans in Hai'an. Volunteers involved in the project record information about the orphans and provide whatever support they need. Some enterprises are also providing some of the orphans' basic material and spiritual needs.

Various activities are held the third weekend of every month. The activities include hands-on learning activities, movie viewings, short trips, and more. To date, 92 activities have been held, and over 820 volunteers have participated.

Twenty-two orphans under 16 years old have received one-to-one care, giving them confidence and hope for the future.
