The culture industry is helping boost development in Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province. Hai'an is the cradle of Qingdun culture, which dates back to the Neolithic Age.

The Hai'an Museum, built this year, has become a new landmark of the city. It covers an area of 6,300 square meters and has received over 100 million yuan ($14.25) in investment.

The Hai'an "523" Culture Industrial Park is Nantong's only cultural industrial cluster, and it has been named a national cultural demonstration base. The park, which focuses on art culture, has attracted over 100 companies and a number of artists. More than 50 high-level art exhibitions have been held in the park.

The Funsure, a private local bookstore that covers an area of nearly 20,000 sq m, offers training services, science activities and exhibitions in addition to selling books.

A number of cultural and artistic performances are also being held at theaters throughout the city.

To date, a total of 11 cultural demonstration bases have been established throughout Hai'an, and 12 cultural projects were listed among the city's major projects.

Since last year, the local government has offered 10 million yuan ($1.43 million) per year to support the development of the culture industry.

Hai'an has won the most prestigious national award for "spiritual civilization construction" two times and plans to continue developing its culture industry.
