A calligraphy competition for children and teenagers was held at Wushan Primary School in Chongchuan district, Nantong in eastern Jiangsu province, on Sept 21.

Nearly 1,000 children and teenagers from counties and districts took part in the event, which was divided into two groups: a primary school group and the secondary school group.

According to the organizers, the competition was staged  to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

“The completion also aims to select a group of outstanding works to participate in the provincial calligraphy competition,” said Fei Chunhua, a local official.
