Nantong bonsais shine in international competition

Bonsais from Nantong won big-time at the recent International Penjing Competition of the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 in Beijing, according to a report in the Nantong Daily on Aug 19.

Competitors from the coastal city in eastern Jiangsu province won an outstanding award, as well as nine golds, four silvers and six bronze awards.

The competition consisted of four categories: tree bonsais, micro compositions, flowers and fruit bonsais and mountains and water bonsais. A total of 476 bonsais from more than 30 countries and regions took part in the competition.

Liu Dexiang, a 50-year-old bonsai professional, won a gold award in the micro composition group. It was the highest award that bonsai craftsmen from downtown Nantong have won over the past 10 years.
