Zhang Jian Memorial Hall

Located in Changle town, Haimen, in Nantong in eastern Jiangsu province, Zhang Jian Memorial Hall was listed as a national 3A-level scenic area in 2011.

Zhang Jian, born in Haimen in Nantong, was a renowned Chinese entrepreneur, politician and educator. He is considered to have been one of the pioneers of Chinese modernization. He founded Tongzhou Normal College in 1902, which was the first normal schools in modern China and he set up Nantong Museum in 1905 –– the first museum on the Chinese mainland.

The memorial hall covers an area of 2.2 hectares and its builders adopted the classical Suzhou garden architectural style.

There is an exhibition hall, a reception hall and a film and television hall in the main building of the memorial hall.

The exhibition hall mainly exhibits pictures, objects, models and audiovisual materials to tell stories about Zhang Jian.

Hours: 8:30-11:00 hrs; 14:00-16:30

Admission fee: 30 yuan ($4.25) for each adult; 15 yuan for each child with height ranging from 1.2 meters to 1.4 meters; free admission for children under 1.2 meters.
