Qidong-built semi-submersible vessel starts sea trials

Gaode No 4, the world’s most advanced semi-submersible petroleum industry accommodation vessels -- built by a Qidong-based shipbuilding company -- started sea trials on June 17, according to a local media report in Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, in Jiangsu province. 

The plush offshore accommodation and services quarters for crew was designed and built by the COSCO (Qidong) Marine Engineering Limited Company. 

The sea trials will last 16 days, during which time the installation of propellers will be carried out and the comprehensive testing of its function will take place. 

Once the engineering project is completed, the new vessel will be delivered for commissioning in the Gulf of Mexico. 

Gaode No 4 has a total length of 95 meters, a breadth of 67m and a height of 60m. It can displace as much as 33,300 tons of water. 

The vessel has 237 double rooms and 26 single rooms, and is able to provide accommodation for 500 people.
