Nearly 300 fishermen are busy harvesting clams at clam farms in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province.

These fishermen, who are between the ages of 40 and 60, work around the tide and water levels.

Rudong's clam harvest season is from April to October every year.

Chen Xiaojun, a villager from the Yangkougang Economic Development Zone, has been digging clams for more than 10 years.

Chen said that like other fishermen, he works four or five hours every day at the clam farm during harvest season.

Yang Jun, owner of the Binhai clam farm, noted that Rudong seafood, including clams, are popular across the country.

He said that his farm produces nearly 10 tons of clams a day during harvest season.

Rudong boasts a coastline of 106 kilometers and mud flats covering an area of 1.04 million mu (69,333 hectares). These mud flats contain a lot of seafood, such as razor clams, earning the county national recognition for its seafood.
