Gangzha company finds favor with suspension bridge

Updated: 2019-05-16

China's first rail-road suspension bridge – the Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge – completed the erection of its main cabling on May 10 using steel produced by Baosteel Group Nantong Wire Products Co based in Gangzha district, a wholly-owned subsidiary of steel giant Baosteel Group.

The Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, with a length of 6.4 kilometers and a major span of 1,092 meters, has two main cables each with a diameter of 1.3 meters. The pulling force of a single main cable is as high as 90,000 tons, enough to lift China's first aircraft carrier, the CNS Liaoning, one and a half times fully loaded.

In addition, 50 percent of the steel for the main bridge stabilizers is supplied by Baosteel Group Nantong Wire Products.

To smooth out construction of the bridge Baosteel Group Nantong Wire Products Co, together with Baosteel Central Research Institute and upstream and downstream companies, formed a joint research and development team which achieved technological breakthroughs in cable steel strength and flexibility.

In recognition of its key contribution to the main cable erection of the bridge, the Gangzha district company was awarded the title of "Excellent Supplier" by bridge constructor, China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group.
