Rudong hosts job fair for migrant workers

Updated: 2019-02-12

Rudong county in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province recently organized a three-day job fair to meet the high demand for new employees after the Spring Festival holiday.

The fair opened on Feb 8 with 11,182 jobs offered by 453 local companies. It aimed at attracting more migrant workers, who usually return to their hometowns for family reunion.

Most of the jobs are in the manufacturing, electronics, medicine and textile industries.

With the settlement of major industrial programs, the county has faced a shortage of workers.

According to an unnamed manager, more than 20 companies in the county's costal economic zone have expanded their scale of production this year, providing more than 1,000 new jobs.

With the county's rapid economic and social development, many people now prefer to work in their hometown.

“Rudong county has developed a lot, so I decided to come back and find a job here so that I can spend more time with my family,” said Wu Linxiao, a 26-year-old engineer who worked at Kushan in Suzhou last year.

To help ease the shortage of employees, the local government has issued opinions to improve the working environment, push forward the establishment of employment platforms and increase training subsides.

The opinions also urge local companies to work together to attract more migrant workers.

“More policies are required to help companies in Rudong to introduce more workers,” said Yang Yongjian, deputy director of the local human resources and social security department.
