Updated: Aug 16, 2017 english.legalinfo.gov.cn Print

Legal aid refers to the judicial relief system whereby a person in need of legal assistance but unable to pay for it can apply for a reduction or exemption in a lawyer's fees to protect his or her lawful rights. The provisions of Article 41 of the Lawyers Law state the amount of legal aid under the above circumstances and where a person needs the assistance of a lawyer in cases concerning livelihood support, a work-related injury, criminal procedures, a claim for State compensation, or a claim on a pension for a person with a disability or the family of a deceased person, the condition being that the citizen cannot afford a lawyer's fee.
